Two problems developed at once.  The first is that the inbox message count
varies randomly, from a roughly accurate count (say 130), to double that (say
250), to random figures between 5,000 and 28,900.  Compressing makes no
difference.  Deleting messgaes reduces figure by one, but if I leave the T-Bird
window and return to it, the number bumps up by some random increment.  At the
same time this started, the get mail button quit, and the keyboard short-cut
only works sporadically.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open T-Bird (always enough to start it
2.Go to another window (e.g. Firefox) (optional)
3.

Actual Results:  
Message count increases by some random amount.

Expected Results:  
Give accurate message count and have functional get mail features

In addition to the foregoing issue, I mentioned that the get mail button did not
work, but that the keyboard shortcut did.  That has now ceased to work also. 
The drop down menu works about 50% of the time.

This is also happening to a client's Thunderbird 1.0.6 installation. He has
~13000 messages and it is going as high as 51000 and back down.

Update: I just went over there, and making a new profile and putting the Mail
dir, prefs.js, etc. in the new profile seems to have fixed it.

The Problem is in Thunderbird 1.0.7 and 1.5.x too, observed with local folders. At first doubling the count and after a few minutes it doubles again and again... If you create a new Profile this Problem disapear, but It will be back soon.

Reporter, does the issue still exist in the latest supported 2.0.0.x / Shredder trunk nightlies?

(1.5.0.x is now end-of-life and the latest 2.0.0.x is version 2.0.0.16)
