Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050405 Firefox/1.0.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050405 Firefox/1.0.2
If I select some text using the mouse and then switch to a different tab, then
*some* of the time the UI freezes totally. If I alt-tab away from firefox to
some other X11 application, and then alt-tab back again, it carries on going as
though nothing had happened.
I've tried both Firefox 1.02 and the nightly build as of 5th April '05 (the
latter core dumped when I tried this rather than freezing).
The webpages involved don't seem to matter - I've even seen it with the
'about:config' page. But it is very intermittent - repeating with the same
combination of pages will often work fine.
Sometimes it's just a bit slow (takes a second or so to switch tabs) but this
isn't the same thing, AFAIK.
I'm running Debian 3.1 with kde3.3.2, xfree86 4.3.0.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a second tab
2. Go back to the first tab
3. Select some text with the mouse
4. Switch to the second tab (with the mouse).
Actual Results:
UI froze until I alt-tabbed to a different X11 application and then alt-tabbed
back again.
Expected Results:
Should have carried on responding.

Something very similar seems to happen in the thunderbird in the mail-compose
window. However, you just need to select some text - you don't need to switch to
another tab (obviously). Again, switching focus seems to cure it; again it's
intermittent.

I strongly suspect this problem is caused by the X server (Xfree86 4.0.3). I've
not seen it on other servers; I've switched to Xorg 6.8.2 and so far it's been fine.
Let's see what happens over the next few days.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
