User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 1.0.2

I have a huge "Sent"-Folder with ~700MB of size. When compacting the folder,
Thunderbird works for a while but then stops processing without notice. In the
mail folder, a file named nstmp (or nstmp-? on subsequent attempts) is left with
about the same size as the original folder.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compact "Sent"-folder
2.
3.

Actual Results:
First indication of compactification, but then the process is stopped without
further notice. A file nstmp is left besides the original folder.

Expected Results:
No stale temp files and a compacted folder.
what Thunderbird build are you using? Can you try a recent trunk build? I fixed
a similar bug on the trunk after 1.0 (the fix is *not* in 1.02, which is a
security fix release)

The full version string in the about dialog is version 1.0.2 (20050317). I'll
try the trunk build later, but I have to make a backup of the mail folder first
- I'd hate to see all my emails evaporating.
recent trunk build fixes the problem, so this possibly is a duplicate. Sorry for
bothering you.
great, thx, marking wfm.
