User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; .NET CLR 1.0.3705) Build Identifier: http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/sysreq.html OS: SuSE 9.0; glibc 2.3.2-88; gtk 1.2.10-710; XFree86 4.3.0; libstdc++ 3.3.1. Downloaded suite to dir /usr/local/mozilla.x; SUed as root. After untarring, entering './mozilla-installer' results in the following messages: Xlib:Connection to ":0.0" refused by server. Xlib:No protocol specified Gtk-Warning**:cannot open display ":0.0" Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install SuSE 9.0 2. SU to root 3. Create directory /usr/local/mozilla (or mozilla.x) 4. Download Mozilla Suite to new directory. 5. Untar package. 6. Enter './mozilla-installer' 7. Read error messages. Actual Results: Same as reporte above Expected Results: I had expected the Mozilla Suite to have been installed.

can you run any X apps after su to root? like xclock?

ajschult@verizon.net was kind enough to point out the error of my ways...this was not a bug after all...merely a loose nut on the keyboard.
