User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050301
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20050301

A few times now, I have had Mozilla mysteriously forget how to print. When it
fails to print, there is no error message or any other warning that printing
isn't going to happen. Mozilla goes through the motions, like it's generating
the Postscript and sending it to CUPS, but no print job is queued, and nothing
comes out of the printer. I can't print web pages, email, or anything else.
However, at the same time, all other apps can print, and restarting Mozilla
fixes the problem. This is a new development since I upgraded to 1.7.5.

Note: The thing I was trying to print the each time I had Mozilla forget how to
print was at this URL: "http://www.uclick.com/client/bos/fcx/". It has a flash
applet, and I tell that applet to print the crossword puzzle. But since I don't
print from Mozilla very often, I can't be sure if that's a factor. After I
restart Mozilla, the flash applet can print, and I can also print other things
just fine.

Reproducible: Sometimes
It seems likely that the patch for bug 261589 is involved here. It was supposed
to remove support for plugin printing on the 1.7 branch, and it was checked in
shortly before 1.7.5 was released.

Timothy, what version of the flash plugin are you using? And what is the name of
the printer you're printing to, as displayed by mozilla? Is it
"PostScript/something" or something else?
Version: unspecified → 1.7 Branch
I just had Moz 1.7.5 forget how to print on a system where I was not using the
flash plugin (at the time it refused to print; it's possible I may have used it
earlier). I printed an email from gmail (successfully), and then I tried to
print a map from google maps (unsuccessfully), and now nothing else will print
either.

I have the same versions of Mozilla and Flash on two systems. The box at work
is the one I originally complained about, and the one that broke today is the
one at home. (Both are Gentoo.) At home, I have Flash version "7,0,25,0", it
reports.

The name of the printer is "Postscript/lp".
I have just experienced this bug on build 2005041606. I was trying to print a
local HTML page. I have tried three times, and it still wouldn't print. The
third time, I had forgotten to turn my printer on, but my system didn't react to
that either.

Strangely enough, my dad has always been able to print pages without problem. He
just did yesterday. He prints pages of jobs on http://www.vdab.be/

This bug being so old makes it even stranger.
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

The latest beta releases can be obtained from:

I wanted to mention that this but still persists. At this very moment, I can
print from any application except Mozilla. When I print, it goes through the
motions as though it's generating a page and sending it, but nothing gets sent
to the printer. I have two printers and tried both, but Mozilla can't print to
either one.
I have the same problem on many workstations, all of them whith mozilla 1.7.12, kernel 2.6.13, cups. I have experimented this problem always printing graphic files, like jpg as email attachments. I can print a lot of these jpg attachments, and suddently mozilla stops to print and also to queue print jobs. Closing and restarting mozilla mail and browser solves the problem.
Sounds similar to bug 305155. (cc some people from that bug)

Is the problem gone for you?
Is it resolved by using a trunk build from http://www.mozilla.org/developer/#builds
or using SM 1.1

Can't reproduce this on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.9b5pre) Gecko/2008032401 SeaMonkey/2.0a1pre. Resolving as WFM, please reopen if you still have problems with latest builds.
