When you open a new tab (^T) the URL is blank and history is gone.
When you open a new tab I would expect there to be a preference setting to allow
you display the same URL as the previous tab as weell as the history.  This is
the way IE works when you create a new window.  You have 2 windows open with the
same history.
I opten open a new window or tab so I can go back in history and still be able
to go to where I was.
The perfect place for this is in Tools-Options-Advanced-Tabbed Browsing.
There shouild be an option called "retain URL history in new tab".
 
This is the only thing I dislike about firefox ... and to me it is a major issue.  
The work around I have fouind is to open a new tab then go back to the old tab
and drag the url to the new tab.  That way I can ata least go back to where I
was even though I will not have the history.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. use firefox to browse thru several sights and develop a history of URL's that
you can use the back and forward button to go back and forth.
2. Hit ^T to open a new tab.  This page is called untitled and has no URL.
3. I want this new tab to look the same as the original tab with it's same history.

If this is possible with firefox now please email me and tell me how to do it.
