Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2 I have unchecked the software update options on the Advanced tab of Options. But when I open Firefox, about 1/3 of the time the auto update icon displays in the toolbar and firefox will not function until I click it and allow it to check for updates. This process is slow (server response problem?) and rarely finds any updates. Often, when I restart firefox, the process is repeated. This problem is severely affecting the usefullness of Firefox. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Just start firefox. 2. 3. Expected Results: I expect that firefox would not force me to check for updates; that I would manually check for updates by clicking the Check Now button on the Advanced tab of Options.
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 My system shows the same error. Sometimes (~ 40% of all Firefox starts) the browser hangs on start. The green update icon appears next to the Help menu and firefox freezes. I can't select any UI item except the update icon. If I do so, the searching for updates dialogue opens and I can check for updates (in most cases it won't find any updates). After closing the dialogue the browser still hangs. After closing and reopening the browser hangs again. After the *3rd* try it *always* works.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4 Despite turning off in options Fx always checks for extension updates on start. But other than never(very rarely) finding updates and the delay Fx runs OK - so far!
FF 2005100614 always checks for new updates every time it's started AND every time I press CTRL-N (new window) In options/update I have disabled all update checking, close the dialog, closed the app and restarted FF and it still always checks for updates. I have the same problem with deer park alpha, and all the FF nightlies I've tried over the past month as well. I'm on Windows XP PRO SP2, running as non-admin. FF is installed as admin, and run first as admin, then I run as regular user. I am able to write to the FF install directory as a regular user. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051006 Firefox/1.4.1
(In reply to comment #3) > FF 2005100614 always checks for new updates every time it's started AND every > time I press CTRL-N (new window) I have this problem. It still occures although I have set "app.update.auto" to false, which grayed the auto update settings options on the 'Update' tab on 'Advnaced' settings. I guess this bug is the same as #314148, and related to #319198 I'm using: Windows 2000 Server SP4 logged in as administrator 512MB RAM, dual PIII 733MHz Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5
I have the same issue with autoupdate being turned off and then Firefox downloads and installs it anyway. I have tried several reinstalls and even deleted all folders and data turned it off to try and make it not do this.
Since bug 319198 refers to the same issue, has already been confirmed and furthermore refers to the more crucial Trunk rather than the 1.0 Branch here ==> resolving as DUPLICATE. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 319198 ***
