Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2
Build Identifier: version 1.0 (20041206) Tbird

Occasionally, a few of the common folders in my account change icon. They also
change position as they are no longer in alphabetical order. Instead, they are
given priority. See a screenshot here:

http://www.thebouldens.com/images/tbirdSS.jpg

A few days ago, both folders were normal icons and in alphabetical order. They
have change once before, and then changed back after a few weeks.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
No clue what is causing it. These folders are no different than others. I have
filters on these and other folders. If it was that, it would be happening to
other folders as well.

Actual Results:
NA

Expected Results:
The Icons should stay as folders and not change to the 'Sent' icon.

I am running XP Pro SP1. The following extensions are installed. Minimize to
Tray, TB Change From and Fcc on compose extension, Tb AutoSave Extension, Quote
Collapse and Quote Colors. None of these seem to be a problem, but I give them
for information.

Just noticed this as well. The icon for one of my subfolders changed to the Sent
folder icon (as illustrated in the image in the previous post).

I moved this subfolder into a different folder and the icon returned to normal.
I cannot pinpoint when the icon change occurred and it has not happened since.

Am using Thunderbird version 1.0 (20041206) on Windows XP.

This bug was confirmed by a second member. It is the same issue all the way up
to 1.0.6. Do not remove this bug it is still active.

I am having this same issue... WinXP Pro sp2, TB version 1.0 (20041206).
It is a subfolder with a Filter. I left TB running over the weekend and came in to this where the Folder has the Sent icon instead of the Folder Icon. I can't rename, move, or delete it. I can "copy" it to a different account which then shows up as a "Folder" which I can both "rename/delete". But still can't do anything with the "Folder/Sent icon".
Any help would be great!
Thanks...

I have found the fix for this bug...
You need to update your "pref.js" file where you have the Folder that is Incorrect!
Your Folder will have the "fcc_folder" and "fcc_folder_picker_mode" just below it.
Simply close TB...
Edit your "pref.js" and replace the "fcc" with "stationery" on the line with your incorrect folder and the line just below it!
Then "Save" your "pref.js" file.
You should then be able to re-open TB and it should be back to the way it was!
If it is still there then you might have to Create a new folder > copy over all emails inside the Incorrect Sent Icon Folder to the new folder, then delete the Incorrect Folder from within Docu~/User~/Application Data/Thunderbird/Profiles/12344.default/mail/192.168.1.1-1(Your Correct Account)/Inbox.sbd/SubDirectory or Incorrect Folder.sbd , Incorrect Folder , and Incorrect Folder.msf
Then Open TB and rename your new folder to be the correct name of your old folder.

If you can follow this it will fix your problem!
I have fixed mine and I am back in buisness!

here is an example of the pref.js file...

user_pref("mail.identity.id2.fcc_folder","mailbox://YOUR_REAL_NAME_IS_HERE@192.168.1.1/YOUR_DAMAGED_FOLDER_NAME_IS_HERE...");
user_pref("mail.identity.id2.fcc_folder_picker_mode", "0");

user_pref("mail.identity.id2.stationery_folder","mailbox://YOUR_REAL_NAME_IS_HERE@192.168.1.1/YOUR_DAMAGED_FOLDER_NAME_IS_HERE...");
user_pref("mail.identity.id2.stationery_folder_picker_mode", "0");

You cannot change the name back to the original folder name without it going back to the old (sent Mail) Icon. Somewhere this setting is being set wrong. If anyone has any more ideas, please let me know.

I had a similar problem: I could not revert a self-created folder to the usual icon after setting that folder to be the sent message destination for one of my identities in Manage Identities -> 'Copies & Folders' -> "When sending messages, automatically" -> "Place a copy in:" -> Other. Even after selecting the '"Sent" Folder on:' radio button for that identity, my folder would not revert to the normal icon.

The problem was that my folder was still selected in the popup menu next to the "Other" radio button. I was able to resolve this permanently by selecting the "Other" radio buttion, setting the popup to be the same as the '"Sent" Folder on:' popup menu above, and selecting the '"Sent" Folder on:' radio button.

Perhaps the above procedure would also resolve the issue reported here?

Thanks... But no go here. Mine was already set to "Sent on..." I tried changing it back and forth to no avail.

Mike, Dwayne sees this problem also with a trunk build. I have no idea where to begin. Do you have any ideas?

Stephen Levitt, do you still see the problem?

Dwayne still sees this. I'm thinking this is a result of something else, aka a dupe. perhaps someone else can figure it out.

Wow, this problem is ancient, and still occurs. I just posted about it over here:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1262535&p=6742585#p6742585

There is at least one bug here, probably two.

MrC was your testing done with trunk or beta build?
Or if someone can reproduce with same then please change bug to NEW

Trunk I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) - I stay up-to-date w/nightlies.

I think this is easy to reproduce. See the URL I posted in #12 above. If you need help reproducing, let me know.

Bryan, Joe, have you heard of this? Confirming based on multiple reports and quick scan doesn't show dupes.

I'm pretty sure bienvenu has seen this. If this is the same thing and I recall correctly it's just that the IMAP server is reporting sent folder flags on different folders.

Comment 17

The time I saw it, it was because of some code in my tree that accidentally set the sent flag on a bunch of folders, nothing that was ever checked in. My bad, in other words.

It sounds like these are all local sent folders, not imap sent, if I'm reading people's comments correctly.

2 folders showing special Sent icon

Imaging showing two folders w/incorrect folder icon, due to setting Sent items to be that folder for under Manage Identities.

Comment 19

To repeat and clarify my own comments from Mozillazine here:

[ modified original to better clarify ]

I have blue stamp icons (special Sent folder icons) for some of my IMAP folders, and regular folders for the others. I'm referring to and focusing on IMAP folders only in this discussion.

[ see image attachment ]

Later, I discovered the special Sent folder icon is used whenever message replies are set to be delivered to a given folder (via various mailidentity.id*.fcc_folder prefs).

I suppose this was done to avoid having to manage the backend for when such a folder is deleted and some identity still has a setting to copy replies to the just-deleted folder.

It is not enough to simply uncheck the identity's "Place a copy in" checkbox. Nor is it sufficient to check the "Place a copy in"->"Sent" Folder on xxx" checkbox/radio pair, as this fails completely to do anything useful.

Neither of these will delete the folder_fcc* prefs. One must actually change the sent folder using the "Place a copy in"->"Other" method and select the account's Sent box, save, and this will delete the fcc_folder* settings. One can then go back and uncheck "Place a copy in" for consistency.

Without fcc_folder* settings in an identity, the default identities settings will be used, so maintaining replies in a given folder happens automatically if the default identity has that option set.

Because of the underlying bugs and inconsistencies here, this is especially difficult for users to figure out what is happening.

BTW: there are two other noticeable bugs due to this:

1) The right-click sub-menu items New Subfolder, Delete, and Rename, are no longer available, essentially making the selected folder a special folder - this is a bit lame).

2) Icon overlays that indicate the folder contains new items are not the used.

Again, this is all IMAP folders (Local Folders are no in relevant here, and were untested by me).

Comment 20

Repeat by:

1) Go to Account Settings->IMAP->Manage Identities, and either edit or create a new Identity.
2) Select Copies & Folders tab.
3) Select "When sending messages, automatically:" and check "Place a copy in" and then select Other and select some (non-Sent or special) folder, and OK your way out.

Now, that folder will have the special Sent folder's icon and loose some right-click context menus as mentioned in the BTW in comment #19.

I'm still not getting the "icons change randomly" part of the bug summary. Are you seeing that, or that we're not clearing the sent flag correctly when you unmark a folder as being the sent folder?
(Reporter)

Comment 22

The original problem I had (4 years ago) was 'random.' There were folders of emails that would "change" to sent icons, and then would occasionally "change" back. I am not sure if that problem still happens as I have since changed to another email client for work.

I would focus on the other (verifiable) complaints.

Comment 23

I would suggest ignore "randomly"; this can seem to be the case when a direct cause or pattern is not obvious. It felt random to me, until I dug in and found the cause.

Yes, this still happens. I can look at that. It is not a problem that the prefs are still set, but how they are used. Maybe it can be done that the code ignores them if "Place a copy in" is unchecked. The code also does not complain/force-create a folder chosen as Sent even if it does not exist immediately.

Hint for me: check e.g. nsMsgAccountManager::SetSpecialFolders() .
