Open any page which opens a popup when loaded or when any link is clicked. For a
good 7-10 sec the Firefox window does not respond. Only after this time period
has elapsed does the popup open, and the browser become responsive.

Reproducible: Always

I can confirm this behaviour!
The same behavior is if I choose File -> New Window from the menu.
In the time, in which Firefox isn't responding, it needs up to 100% of CPU.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.

I can confirm this bug. When a new window is opened, Firefox 1.0.7 pegs the CPU
for 10 seconds. This does not happen for the very first window. Tabs are fast.

OS is Fedora Core 4, hardware is HP nx8220 with 1.87GHz Pentium M and 1GB memory.
Could it be, that is issue is Fedora Core related?
No, it isn't, I was using Debian when I reported the bug. However I was using
the Bluecurve (and subsequently Clearlooks) gtk and metacity themes.
I had exactly the same problem on SuSE 10, FF 1.0.7 (every new window takes 100% CPU for about 10sec before it pops up). The problem disappeared when I disabled the SwitchProxy extension. So, I guess you check the list of your extensions first...
A co-worker has the same problem with Firefox 1.0.7 on Suse 9.2 and Suse 9.1 (at two completely different locations). Seems to be 1.0.x only. Confirming due to the number of people reporting this behaviour.

I can confirm this bug. Firefox (1.5 de-DE) needs about 2 up to 5 seconds to open a popup or a new window.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

WinXP SP2, alle Fixes, modem connection.
Works for me after updating to 1.5.0.1
I can also comfirm this bug, on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; lt; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7.

For me popups opened after 10-15 secs.
I tried to create new profile, and popup opened instantly.
Then I returned to 'bad' profile, and popups again opens slowly.
Tried to run Firefox in Safe Mode, and popups opens instantly.
Again, runned in normal mode and popups opens slowly, but now it opens in 3-5 secs.

I thought that this bug can cause extensions, so I tried to enable/disable extensions.
I tested starting with none extensions enabled, and then by enable one by one extension, then started FF 2 times (First for full enable, second for test), and tested opening popup 5 times. Here is averages of popup load. The worst results are here:

Old profile:
None: 534 ms
Web Developer: +244 ms
Update Notifier:	+434 ms
FireBug: +797 ms

Then on I tried to install those worst extensions to new profile:

None: 181 ms
Web Developer: +75 ms
Update Notifier:	+53 ms
FireBug: +143 ms

So I think that this extensions problem. Don't install too much extensions, because each slow downs Firefox's start-up and windows/popups opening time.
Hi:
I love of the opera thing "Open THIS popup" function, and "open wanted popups". So i suggest include this into firefox

I think When the message of "blocked pop up" appear can exist a little button "if you want see click here"

Sometimes we are into a poper web, but we know that only this want.

Do you see problem using FF 2 or FF 3 beta ?

Summary: Opening a popup window takes a lot of time (Slow Popup) → Opening a popup window takes several seconds (Slow Popup) with 100% CPU and Firefox not responding
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008042006 Minefield/3.0pre

Using a fresh profile, pop-ups are pretty snappy for me, both in a recent trunk build and 2.0.0.14.
WFM, Firefox 3.0.3 and 3.1b2pre on Linux.
