User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 I am running Win XP , SP2. When I tried to update my firefox from 1.02 to 1.03 everything went smoothly. I did it with default setting, not custom. But when the instalation was complete ( I was forced to close Firefox in order to finish instalation ) the original shorcut for firefox on my desctop was missing and I had 3 new shourcuts , all of them alike and pointing to the firefox client. I also noticed there werent Shorcut to....Firefox , but just Firefox as should be , and missing Copy to ( Copy to Copy of Firefox ). Also firefox wouldnt run anyway I tried to start it - thru the shorcut, directly clicking on the client - absolutly nothing happend at all. When I restarted my windows the extra icons were missing and all was working as it should. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get Firefox 1.02 2. Update to 1.03 by clicking on the red mark in the top up corner Actual Results: Firefox crashed. Expected Results: Firefox should work.

I have experience almost identicle behavior. I even tried uninstalling Firefox and re-installing from a fresh download. Same results. The Firfox box will load, sometimes, but all Ff specific taskbar and menu items are unresponsive. Can only close via Task Manager. When un-installing, it is reported that Ff is still running despite checking Task Manager and seeing that it was not. Reinstalled 1.02 which works as before. Oddity: When upgrading to 1.03 there was an attempt to upgrade an extentyion called Noia which I have never installed in the first place. I double checked and there is no indication that I have such an extension. No idea if this is related.

April 16, Firefox tells my laptop at home it has the 1.03 update. I let it download. The install hangs, reporting a corrupt download. April 18, Firefox tells me desktop at work it has the 1.03 update. I let it download. The install completes, but the new browser won't load any pages. Won't let me enter anything in the location bar. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I've uninstalled and reinstalled *1.02* again. No luck. Dead Firefox. I've had to fall back to NS. Let me know when it is really fixed. :) I really like Firefox. It's just completely unusable to me now. BTW, that "Quality Feedback Agent" built into Firefox has *never* successfully transmittted even one report for me. And I'm not behind a firewall. Also BTW, I tried to manually download 1.03 in Netscape in one of my reinstall attempts. Netscape reports the download as corrupt and stops downloading. IE downloads the file.
(In reply to comment #2) Running Win XP SP2 with Norton Internet security 2005 After update from 1.02-1.03 firefox crashes randomly, loads slower than 1.02 and sometimes wont load at all. Does not show up in task manager, but does show up as process. Random amounts of memory taken up in process manager. Restart to fix problem , windows has to force to quit or end now. Cant even use task manager its not there. Have restarted and duplicated problem several times, have not tried nightly build or mozzilla suite. Tried reinstalling 1.03 update and it failed due to unable to close firefox, which i didnt even know had a process out since it wont show up in task manager. Not fun, I love this browswer but this update has seemed to hurt us more than help. Hope to resolve soon ? > April 16, Firefox tells my laptop at home it has the 1.03 update. I let it > download. Firefox is unresponsive when launched after applying the 1.0.4 update over 1.0.1. I had the same problem before when updating 1.0.2 to 1.0.3. The only way I could resolve it was to delete the user data from the Firefox application data folder and reinstall.
It seems to be related to something in file: C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile>\chrome\overlayinfo\browser\content\overlays.rdf # BEGIN FILE <?xml version="1.0"?> <RDF:RDF xmlns:c="http://www.mozilla.org/rdf/chrome#" xmlns:NC="http://home.netscape.com/NC-rdf#" xmlns:RDF="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"> <RDF:Seq RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul"> <RDF:li>chrome://tabdownloader/content/tabloaderOverlay.xul</RDF:li> <RDF:li>chrome://useragentswitcher/content/menu.xul</RDF:li> <RDF:li>chrome://adblock/content/adblock.xul</RDF:li> <RDF:li>chrome://tabprefs/content/tabprefs.xul</RDF:li> <RDF:li>chrome://forecastfox/content/forecastfox.xul</RDF:li> <RDF:li>chrome://forecastfox/content/forecastfox-ff.xul</RDF:li> <RDF:li>chrome://useragentswitcher/content/useragentswitcher.xul</RDF:li> </RDF:Seq> <RDF:Seq RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/pref/pref-advanced.xul"> <RDF:li>chrome://tabprefs/content/tabprefs.xul</RDF:li> </RDF:Seq> <RDF:Seq RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/pref/pref.xul"> <RDF:li>chrome://tabdownloader/content/prefsOverlay.xul</RDF:li> <RDF:li>chrome://tabprefs/content/tabprefs.xul</RDF:li> </RDF:Seq> </RDF:RDF> # END FILE After moving the file to a temporary directory and relaunching Firefox all seems to work now. I'll investigate further and see what I can come up with. Any additional help into the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
