This is done via JAVA. Disabling JAVA solves the intrusion, but other applets I wish to exercise also stop working. I am not sure whether tis is a serious issue. I also was unable to find earlier reports of same. Sorry is this is a non issue. This isn't an issue at all. And surely nothing to do with Firefox in the first place. The java-applet can indeed retrieve some information from your local PC, but only the non-sensitive info. It can't read your files for example. It's not spyware.
