This works for me in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2)
Gecko/20050416 Firefox/1.0+ and for everyone else. If you get more details on
how to reproduce the bug and how it is related to firefox please reopen. You
should try a new profile.

I have a simple mouse, 2 buttons and a middle wheel ...
Laptop :
Acer Aspire 2003 WLMI
Win XP home SP2
The mouse :
Connectland (made in China...)

On USB 2.0 port
Windows install it like : HID Mouse
Detail :
Microsoft
Date : 01/07/2001
Driver : 5.1.2600.0
Microsoft Windows Publisher

I didn't have this problem with old versions of Firefox
The middle clic works in FF...(open new tab or Quick scroll), but not the wheel... 
The mouse works with Mozilla Full Suite and Thunderbird 1.0....

I tried a new profile... same problem...
I'll try to rename my profile folder, uninstall and reinstall FF and create new
profile...
