User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
Regardless of which theme, or it's age, when I click install, a new browser
window opens (not new tab). In the window, wingding-type symbols are displayed,
along with infrequent labels. after this, the theme does NOT appear in the
installed list. I DO still have one other theme installed., which works
correctly if made active. It APPEARS as if the java add-on is not working, but
current version is installed. I have the [themename].jar saved, but can't figure
out how to manually install on windows98.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.goto themes page
2.select theme, click install
3."code" page appears, theme is NOT in install list.
Actual Results:
Firefox works fine, but theme is not added to list, regardless of attempts.
Expected Results:
"code" window should NOT appear, theme should appear in list to be made active.
This problem MAY have existed under v1.0.2, I did not attempt to update/install
themes with that version.
default theme is ok, as is "Doodle Classic", and same behavior occurs regardless
of active theme. Not sure if this is "NORMAL" or "MAJOR" - basic program
operation seems unaffected, but "customization" is not possible.

I'm having the same problem in Windows XP. I installed theme Doodle on my Win2K
laptop at work today and had no problem. On XP, however, Doodle results in
"garbage" characters on the screen and other themes will not install saying I
have a corrupted .jar file.

where do you try to install from?
you should be able to install a theme by downloading it and drag-and-dropping to
the themes window. Firefox doesn't have any kind of special processing for JAR
files, afaik. The themes should be packaged as XPIs or accompanied by a special
Javascript install code in the webpage (again, afaik).

I am using 1.0.3 on W2K and couldn't install new themes automatically like 1.0.2
did. I tried the drag-and-drop suggested and it worked like a charm! Thanks
for the suggestion.
