For an example of why someone might care: this is particularly troublesome when dealing with a misconfigured mail server over SSL where the certificate name does not match the hostname. Changing severity to Enhancement. You can change the timer. Go to Edit, Mail+News Account Settings, the account you want to change, Server Settings and change the 'Check for new messages every XX minutes' setting.
Severity: normal → enhancement
