I grabbed the latest nightly for Camino and found that the "Rich Text" editor feature of Gmail does not work, as it does in Firefox. Camino: 2005041708 (v0.8+) Firefox: 20041107 Firefox/1.0 By "does not work" I mean, simply, that the toolbar for rich text editing does not appear - the space for it is there, but no images are loaded in/no functionality is provided. Sorry if this is a dupe, I searched existing bugs and didn't find any on this.
Any chance that Gmail is filtering Camino out? 0.8 doesn't have midas (but also didn't claim something right, bug 197253 comment 32 and bug 197317) and a number of sites mentioned in bug 197253 were filtering Camino by UA rather than by support for midas. What works in the Fx trunk nightlies should work in Camino nightlies since mid-Nov....
Good question. Any way to override the UA in Camino and test this?
Ah, good thinking. That's the problem, indeed. With user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050403 Firefox/1.0+"); in my user.js, I get the rich text editor with the half-cut-off buttons, just like in Fx. The question is, does it make sense to evangelize Gmail now for the nightlies or only for/just before 0.9 release version? Mike?
Hmm, bizarre. I'm getting the cut-off icons now, but in my Firefox build, Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 I get the entire icon. Is something broken in Firefox nightlies? Firefox 1.0 apparently doesn't have a problem! I guess this is going slightly off-topic at this point, since its obvious that GMail is using UA profiling.
might as well start now, no?
All of the evangelism that needs to be done about Camino having proper Midas support is another good argument for getting a build out that has a real 0.9[a|b|etc] version number.... (http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/pinkerton/archives/008096.html)
I've never used this system to report or research bugs, and to be honest, the answers I'm reading hold no relevance for me as I don't know the developer/programmer "speak". I'm experiencing the same problem in GMail. The option for rich text formatting in gmail does not appear, anywhere. Please let me know if you have a fix. Many thanks! kappi00@aim.com
(In reply to comment #7) > option for rich text formatting in gmail does not appear, anywhere. Please let > me know if you have a fix. Many thanks! The issue is on Gmail's end; we can't do anything about it. The best thing to do is to use the feedback link in Gmail to tell them that Camino 0.9 supports the rich text editor and you would like to see them enable that option. See also this post on the Camino forum for more info: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=277896 (The rich text editor feature does not exist in Camino 0.8.4, only in Camino 0.9 builds like 0.9a2.)

Evangelism?
Target Milestone: --- → Camino1.0
I've been periodically (with the switch to the 0.9 UA and with each alpha) posting messages in the MZ forum for Gmail users to send feedback via Gmail's feedback, but so far no movement (or reply) from the Gmail end. All they have to do is fix their UA sniffing....

better sniffing (anything with 1.0 in it) was pushed, should go into production next week.
Reports have been filtering in for the past two days that the rollout is in progress and people are starting to see the link/toolbar in Camino 1.0. Thanks pink!
