Linux version is wrong too, should I file a separate bug report?
This has still not been fixed. The current version when I created this bug was 5.0 update 2. Since then they have released a number of further updates, and the current version is 5.0 Update 5! The url listed on plugindoc.mozdev.org is http://java.sun.com/update/1.5.0/jre-1_5_0_05-windows-i586.xpi
Summary: Java (by Sun) for windows has the wrong version. The current version is Version 5.0 Update 2. → Java (by Sun) for windows has the wrong version.

Upped severity as old versions are probably a security risk.

The links are leading to old versions, so they have to be adjusted, like this one, changed from 1.5.0_05 to 1.5.0_06: http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=22&PartDetailId=jre-1.5.0_06-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg It will need to be changed to 1.5.0_07 next year end of March, I assume. This page is always up to date, but you will have to know what you need, as it offers NetBeans IDE + JDK 5.0 Update 6, J2EE 1.4 SDK, JDK 5.0 Update 6, JRE 5.0 Update 6 and some more offers. http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Summary: Java (by Sun) has the wrong version. Current version is 5.0 update 5 → Java (by Sun) has the wrong version. Current version is 5.0 update 6

Taking. I can't believe something this critical has been around for so long! I've recently learned about cvs and such things, so a patch will come shortly.

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp is offering JRE 5.0 Update 7 JavaTM 2 Platform Standard Edition Development Kit 5.0 Update 7 http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/ReleaseNotes.html Trying to download website gives message to be currently down, but because modifying the index was working for previous releases I suppose the download link will be: http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=22&PartDetailId=jre-1.5.0_07-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg

Raising severity from 'critical' to 'blocker', as there seems to be no reaction. Currently the link offers JRE 5.0 Update 1, that's 6 update cycles old, and has a lot of crashes. Link should be to JRE 5.0 Update 7, same for all OS https://sdlc4a.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet;jsessionid=D4FB2320E82CF944B54BE803DE7821D9 is offering J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7 for: Windows, Linux, Solaris SPARC, Solaris x86, Solaris x64, Linux AMD64, Windows AMD64
Severity: critical → blocker

Cameron, if you haven't gotten to the patch I can take care of this along with other PFS problems.

I'm going to try to find someone at Sun to give us a URL that will always point at the latest, or something equally useful.

(In reply to comment #13) > I'm going to try to find someone at Sun to give us a URL that will always point > at the latest, or something equally useful. Have a look there: http://java.com/en/ http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Imho they are offering the latest JRE intended for consumers. There is also a link for verifying the Java installation, and if your Java is old, I remember having been asked to confirm to update automatically, or so. They didn't offer all updates of JRE 1.5 This problem should be solved before the next Firefox release, or maybe JRE 1.6 release, hopefully ;-) Maybe the links above will be good until someone at SUN tells better links, about the time Firefox 5 will be released?

This .xpi was already given a while back: https://pfs.mozilla.org/plugins/PluginFinderService.php?mimetype=application/x-java-applet&appID={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}&appVersion=1.5.0.4&clientOS=Win&chromeLocale=en-US Based on what jst said -- we can see that the windows PFS RDF offers an update, and for "PPC Mac OS X" it offers a manual installation URI. Though one common problem is the lack of support for "Intel Mac OS X", but that's another issue. See bug 344475. I will update the listings to cite the proper update version for Java, and resolve this.
