Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225 Firefox/1.0.1 The file type for .url files on Win2000 is destroyed when FireFox is uninstalled, if FFox was installed as the default browser. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start with a clean install of Windows (I used Win2000 but maybe happens on other versions too). IE should be installed as the default browser. 2.[optional] Verify that the file type ".URL - Internet Shortcut" is assigned the following actions: open--> rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l print--> rundll32.exe C:\WINNT\system32\mshtml.dll,PrintHTML "%1" printto--> rundll32.exe C:\WINNT\system32\mshtml.dll,PrintHTML "%1" "%2" "%3" "%4" 3. Open any URL in IE and create a shortcut to it on the desktop (drag the icon from the address bar) 4. Install FireFox as default browser (I installed 1.0.1). Note that the shortcut files on the desktop don't work anymore, and that their icons changed (but this is not the bug I am reporting). 5. Uninstall Firefox. 6. The shortcut files on the desktop have now changed to <URL Name>.url - the .url extension was not visible before. IE can not open them anymore. Actual Results: The way the shortcut files are displayed has changed from <URL Name> to <URL Name>.url - the .url extension was not visible before. IE can not open them anymore. Expected Results: Restore the file type for URL files to the original state, so that the files are openable by IE.
