User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) Opera 7.54 [en] Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Message received is in a messagebox labelled "Alert". "www.mozilla.org" (or whatever site) "could not be found. Please check the name and try again." Yes, I'm sure I'm spelling the URL correctly. Things were fine before the security update. The update was applied over an existing version of Firefox. Perhaps that was not a good plan? Since then I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox. Same result. I'm entering this bug report using Opera since I can't use Firefox! I tried various connection options (under Tools, Options, General, Connection Options), but no change. I connect via DSL with no proxy server. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Type the URL 2.Press Enter 3.Read the message 4.Click OK 5.Repeat ad nauseum Actual Results: Message received. Local HTML pages (such as the bookmarks file) display without any trouble. Expected Results: One would expect to actually view the site..... Using the default setup. No special themes; no fancy configuration. Things were fine an hour ago!

You most likely need to update your firewall to allow the new version access to the internet.

Thanks to the feedback from everyone, this was identified as a firewall issue. A new entry was somehow created in my firewall "rulebook" that took precedence over the existing rule. The new rule did not allow Firefox to access the Internet. Obviously the first rule gave full access. Fixed! Thanks. I still love Firefox.
