See discussion in bug 290878. Basically, the .x and .y of a boxObject are more or less copy/paste from HTML's offset* properties. They have nothing to do with client coordinates, except in the simplest cases. The obvious question, to me, is whether we want to change the behavior of .x and .y or whether we want to introduce .clientX and .clientY on boxobjects.
