Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2
Reminder about available updates show for short time near taskbar tray and hide.
I can neither catch it nor find this information again. This reminder use icon
for plugin placeholder, instead of using FireFox icon.
And it happen in offline, which shocking a little. After some times I understand
that it's not magic nulltransportation connection, but just a reminder.
Reproducible: Always
Expected Results:
Popup about new updates must be shown at once after detecting.
Reminder must be shown at start of browser
or
at online status detection
or
at detection of update really can be downloaded at this time (connection to
server established).
In all cases FireFox icon must be used instead of plugin icon.

Could you post a screenshot for this? I've having a bit of trouble understanding
exactly, and a screenshot would help.

Unfortunately, there are no new updates available now. But I'll try to paint
it.
Pay attention to yellow rectangle in the right bottom corner. This popup show
for short (some seconds) time and immediately hide. The text in this rectangle
is not true - I never able to read it. I can not find information about what
was happen using browser menus and/or toolbar.
The green shape inside rectangle corresponding to (not installed?) plugin, but
not to FireFox!
Then. It happen when I _was_ in online, but offline now. I think, popups like
it must inform user about some real online events only.

This probably still counts as a bug, because it's notifying you of updates when
you're not online, but I had a similar problem. I'm always online, so I don't
know if it would have appeared ofline, but I was repeatedly getting a "new
updates available", both the icon on the menu bar and the popup. It seems to be
related to another bug (don't know the number) where if you start searching for
updates, and then cancel, it keeps the icon on the menu bar. When I would try to
search for updates, it would just stop at a certain point and never finish. I
eventually found out that there were a couple updates to my extensions, and I
manually installed the newer versions. After that, the problem went away. My
problem could have also been related to my messing with the settings in
about:config related to updates.
So as a fix for you, I would suggest going down the list under extensions, and
check each one for updates. Once you reach one that hangs, I would try to
install a newer version of it, or try disabling it if there's no new version
available. Then once you can get the update process to complete with no updates,
see if your problem remains.
The new updates popup should stay for about 2 seconds. And you say that you
can't find this information again, but the blue or red icon should stay on the
menu bar. If it doesn't, then okay. But next time see if there's an icon.
I only half-way agree with you about changing the icon to a firefox icon. It
might make it a little easier to know that it's firefox, but most people just
know. And by Firefox 1.1, the update process will be different anyways.

We can split all notifications into two classes. One is urgent notifications,
such as "Master, there are critical security errors, please, upadate ASAP!".
This class must be show as modal dialog and have critical update sign (red up
arrow) in the body to make association with this icon.
Another class is not critical, they can show popup-autohide window, but in case
of it linked to the system toolbar it must leave icon in the tray - like
Outlook, for example. The best, IMHO, is not to show this window at all, but
show icon (another icon - not all people can distinguish colours!) in the
menubar. May be this sign must be expand to small, one line message first time
and then collapsed to icon.
ANyway, I think, nobody need browser as alarm clock.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
