Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Firefox doesn't always open. When I click the icon, the profile manager appears asking me to pick a profile. I select a profile and select start firefox, and it hangs. The firefox.exe is running (as confirmed by task manager), but I have to end-task it. Now if firefox.exe is running but not loading, and I open it again (say two more times), there are 3 firefox.exe, but none load. After I end-task them all, then open it again, it usually loads. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open firefox 2.Select a profile and select start firefox 3. Actual Results: Sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't, but firefox.exe is running, just hangs. Expected Results: Always load. I see firefox.exe in task manager, just needs to be end-tasked so I can startup. Probably occurs 1 of every 4 or 5 startups, but I'm not sure on that figure.

Do you use extensions ? Does it work in the safemode or with a new profile ?

I have version 1.0.3 and have the same problem. Firefox will not launch unless I go to the task manager and "end process". Then, the second time, it launches fine. My laptop is running the same version but does not have this problem. Both systems are up to date and running most of the same programs. The only major difference is my home computer uses an AMD processor and my laptop uses a Celeron.

WinXP Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6 My firefox 1.06 has the same behavior, with one difference. The original report mentioned "selecting a profile". However, this bug only occurs for me if I don't click on a profile, but rather just click OK. A profile is already highlighted, which would indicate that clicking the OK button would start with the profile from the last session. But I need to actually click on something, even if it is the one already highlighted. The steps reproduce the "stuck firefox" around 75-90% of the time. 1) Create multiple profiles (4 in my case, with the default profile deleted) 2) Open with firefox.exe -p 3) Click on a profile, then OK 4) Close all the browser windows 5) Open with firefox.exe -p 6) DON'T click on a profile. The last one used should already be highlighted 7) Click OK Result: No windows are opened, but the firefox.exe process is in the Task Manager process list, and must be killed before starting firefox again

Your reported Firefox version(s) are too old a build to analyze bugs against now. The problem you are reporting may well have been fixed already. It would be important to see this behaviour reported for a clean installation or a safe-mode start of Firefox to exclude influence of any extensions or themes! Could you please download a recent version or nightly build from <http://www.mozilla.org/releases/nightly.html>, and then let us know if you still see this problem? Many thanks, Cigno
Given that we are now a long way from the 1.0.x releases, I'm suggesting WFM here.

Can't reproduce on clean install of 1.5.0.7. On the Profile Select dialog, the initially selected profile always has the dotted rectangle around the item, indicating it's not just highlighted but also selected. This is different from the earlier behavior, where clicking on the highlighted item would cause the dotted rect to appear and prevent hanging. So, it appears to be fixed, or at least not reproducible by me.
