If a plugin is missing for a web page I click on "Click here to download plugin"
or the "Install missing plugins" button. It comes up with the missing plugin as
available, eg "Java Runtime Environment". I click Next and the install progress
bar appears - but it never shows any progress at all; just stays empty
indefinitely. If you then click on Next (rather than give up and reluctantly
run IE6 instead)it says "Firefox finished installing the missing plugins: Java
Runtime Environment Installed Firefox needs to be restarted for the
plugin(s) to work. I close Firefox, rerun it, go the problem site and it's back
to "Additional plugins are required....." and "Click here to download plugin".
It was the same with Firefox 1.0.0. Win XP Home, SP1, latest patches.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Standard Firefox 1.0.0 install
2. Firefox 1.0.1 upgrade
3. Hit any site with missing plugins and proceed as in Details above.

Actual Results:
The plugin fails to load (see Details).

Expected Results:
The plugin should have ben active after I re-ran Firefox and revisited the
problem site.

I'm on 256kbps broadband - works fine with Outlook 2003, downloads via Firefox
etc. Direct USB ADSL modem connection - no VPNs or routers or anything. AVG +
Kerio + MS AntiSpyware for security. The problem existed before I downloaded MS
Antispyware!
Please try 1.0.3 and see if that has the same issue.
I get this in version 1.0.4/Windows XP and sometimes on Linux (rare)
Also sometimes not even one plug in gets loaded for some reason.

Looking at Tools-options-downloads-plug-ins
Nothing is listed in the dialog box.
Note that the directory where plug ins are stored (the dll files on Windows XP)
is not empty.
Tools-options-downloads-plug-ins is a misnomer and doesn't relate to plugins not
loading.

I've now gone to XP SP2 and Firefox 1.0.4 and still get the same problem, eg the
page http://vauxhall.co.uk/trafficnet/index.jhtml always offers to install the
Shockwave plugin but never does.
ok, that url shows a good testcase for this issue.
