RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 254714

People

(Reporter: bruces, Assigned: bugzilla)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3

The bug occurs when I click on a URL in e-mail, documents or desktop shortcuts
to open in Firefox and the initial DNS lookup fails. This has become more
obvious recently because of my parent DNS servers being DDoSed.

Firefox attempts the DNS lookup before updating the Location Bar with the URL.
If the DNS lookup times out and gives the "Failed to resolve site" popup, the
Location Bar remains blank and I have to return to the source of the URL to try
again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a document or e-mail with a URL link embedded.
2.Click on the link to view with Firefox via URI handling in the app.
3.Wait for the DNS server to time out. This can be faked by entering a
non-existant URL in the document or e-mail

Actual Results:
Firefox informs me that the site could not be resolved via a message box and
fails to place the URL into the Location Bar address field. You then have to
return to the e-mail or document to try the URL again. The Go button is useless
in this instance.
If the site resolves and fails to connect, the problem does not occur and the Go
button can be used to reattempt.

Expected Results:
Firefox should place the URL in the Location Bar initially before performing the
DNS lookup. If any failure to resolve or connect happens, the URL should be
available in the Location Bar so that you can try again without having to return
to the document when you came from.

Agreed. Any chance of it actually getting fixed?
