User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3

I am unable to select multiple bookmarks from the sidebar. The appropriate
behavior should allow me to shift+select multiples or ctrl+select multiples.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the bookmarks sidebar
2. Attempt to select multiple bookmarks

Actual Results:
Watch as the first bookmark you click on is activated and the browser opens that
page.

Expected Results:
Holding ctrl or shift while selecting should suspend the browser from opening
the link and allow the user to select and then drag multiple bookmarks.

I've now read the discussion which took place with regard to bug #217472 that
was made a duplicate of #260367. Can anyone explain why #260367 has been
marked as invalid, because the discussion certainly didn't seem to result in a
resolution or agreement.

The issue many have reported makes the bookmarks sidebar useless as it has no
more functionality than the bookmarks drop down menu. Single click vs. double
click as they relate to history and the sidebar need to be reexamined. I have
a very hard time understanding how and why this is considered a
design 'feature' or non-bug as it severely hampers usability and therefore
adoption of Mozilla.

Please just don't sweep this one under the rug.
It was marked invalid because it requested a change that directly conflicted
with a patch that was just checked in. Mconnor@steelgryphon.com on 2004-09-19
19:16 PDT marked the bug INVALID. I supose a wontfix would have been more
accurate. Mconnor is one of the lead developers in the Firefox project and he
saw fit to mark it invalid.
The issue seemed to center around whether or not the bookmarks would be
handled as links or as files. The bookmarks sidebar is both a list of links
and a specialized file browser and therefore should incorporate a multiple
bookmark selection feature. Whether this is a matter of a design decision as
Mconnor said or a patch conflict as comment #3 states, I would like to see it
looked at again.
