look here for details: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=256721
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. open Thunderbird
2. incorrectly receive emails
3.
Actual Results:
Email message bodies went with the wrong subject or sender or did not show at all.
Expected Results:
The proper message body should appear with the proper subject and sender.
possible duplicate to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258113
but that one is resolved as fixed and this one is still occuring with this build:
version 1.0+ (20050426)
This only seems to happen if filters are turned on. The messages' "Order
Received" shows as "0" (without the "") on the one remaining message I have.
This is a DATALOSS bug and should be a blocker for sure.

Also seeing this, using inbox filters, and getting mixed up messages. Can
supply my profile and filter settings, if it will help nail this one.

are you using the virus quarantine option so that thunderbird gives anti-virus
software a chance to quarantine individual messages by downloading each message
to a temp file? If so, I believe that's the source of the problem. I'm trying to
track that down - I fixed a previous issue with that, but it only helped on one
of my machines; my other machine has the same problems that you're seeing. I
don't know what's different between my two setups...

Yes, I am using the anti-virus quarentine option. Unfortunatly, I am now gone
back to stable 1.02, so I cannot verify if disabling it helps matters.

I think I've tried both ways. It is frustrating and unpredictable to try testing it.

this fixes the problem for me. I'm still trying to track down the leaking temp
file issue. This may or may not fix it. If it doesn't fix it, it may be the
case that I'll have a different fix for this that also fixes the temp file
issue (involving setting a flag in the new mail parser so that it knows it's
using a temp file)

ah, it seems to be the global inbox get new mails that are causing the temp file
leak. Will investigate tomorrow.

Outcome? Or was Aspitzer's approval including anything you found?

the temp file issue was fixed in a different bug. I no longer see this problem.

Seems to be working here, been running the following nightly version 1.0+
(20050506) since release, and not seen any corrupts.

I just lost all my inbox messages with no warning or other signs. I had my
filtering turned on starting late yesterday. I am pretty sure this is still the
problem and this bug should be reopened. The filter log is turned on, and was empty.

Still doing it. Thank God I now have a temp mailbox set up into which I copy my
email after it all downloads so it is only the latest "batch" which gets corrupted.

Thunderbird/1.0+ ID:2005061509
If it helps, I had a spam/junk email which it kept locking up on, and I deleted
it using PINE email on the unix server after which the other emails came
through, though damage was already done.

It was checked. I just now unchecked it. Hope that helps in tracking this down.

Still needs more investigation and a patch before considering this on the
branch. Please renominate if we make more progress here.

I'm the one that wrote the mozillzine post
(http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=274014) and I'm sorry so say the
bug is not fixed in the latest Linux build I just downloaded (2005-07-09-05).
This problem only occurs with only one of my IMAP accounts (I don't use POP so I
don't know about that), all others seem fine. I tried the usual -- removed all
the local cache files (*.msf, *.sbd) but to no avail. The first (latest)
message I click on is usually OK but all subsequent messages are "off by one".
Please reopen the bug.

this bug was about pop3 downloaded mail, not imap. They're completely different.
Is your imap folder configured for offline use? Do you see anything on the js
console when you read messages?
Comment 21•19 years ago
|
||
Ok, sorry. The bug doesn't say anything about POP though and comment #12
references the thread I started about IMAP.
Anyway, my account is not configured for offline use and I see nothing in the
Javascript console. The messages are just all off by one.

Nick, you could try generating an imap protcol log by following these
instructions: http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap
and send me an annotated copy of the log (you can reload the log in a browser
and see what imap protocol corresponds to what you see in the message pane)

I am the originator of this bug. I don't recall whether or not it has happened
since the checkin of the second patch. I am very leery of this software, and
understand that nightly builds are indeed for testing purposes. I use POP and
not IMAP, but if someone thinks it also applies to IMAP, have at it. I hope this
gets fixed soon (even though it is marked fixed...[rolls eyes]). (-:

the fix has nothing to do with imap, nor does this bug...even if the symptoms
seem similar, the underlying bug is not the same. If someone is having similar
symptoms, please file a new bug on the imap code and if you could attach a
protocol log, using the instructions I previously posted, that would be very
helpful.

This bug is back with version 1.5 Beta 1 (20050928).
Please reopen.
I am getting multiple blank emails or "confused" email messages. I tried
compacting the inbox (or other folder), but no luck.
This should block 1.5 for sure, but there is no flag for that, so I picked the
next closest.
