User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050415 Firefox/1.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050415 Firefox/1.0.3 The Search Messages function does not quite work for newsgroup messages. I think the percent of time/chances it works for newgroup messages is less than 10% (I think I started using Thunderbird since its 0.1 release). For example: I can do a search Subject contains 'string' for normal e-mail messages and it lists expected e-mails with the 'string' in their subjects. But it does work for newsgroup messages; it just returns nothing. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Subscribe to a newgroup. 2. Download new messages from the newsgroup. 3. Now Search Messages and enter a string that you see in at least one subject. Actual Results: No news items are listed. Expected Results: At least one item would be listed.

WFM TB version 1.0+ (20050603) please try a newer version and provide much more detail, such as build version, newsgroup(s) tested, which ones are consistent, and which ones aren't.

I am able to duplicate this with 20050622 build of Thunderbird 1.0+. I have set up an account for "news.microsoft.com" and have subscribed to the newsgroup "microsoft.public.win32.programmer.messaging". I right click on the newsgroup in the folder tree and select "Search Messages". I leave all of the defaults in the search dialog, enter "Undocumented" in the subject text field and then click the search button. Thunderbird responds almost immediately with "No Matches Found" in the status bar of the search dialog. Note that there is at least one message posted on 6/21/2005 by myself (Dan Christensen) entitled "Undocumented flag in IAttach::OpenProperty" that should have matched this search. I am able to duplicate this with any text that I try to search. I have never actually seen results come back.

we do news searches on the news server - it's possible that search is broken on the server. You can generate an NNTP protocol log to see what's happening with the search by following these instructions, replacing "protocol" with NNTP http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter.
