User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 This happens roughly once a day or so on me. It used to just happen in my "non-main account" inboxes (I use IMAP), but tonight it's decided to scramble a load of them. I have screenshots to demonstrate what I mean. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start thunderbird. 2. Go to a 2ndary IMAP account (not your primary) inbox. 3. Fix the columns. Actual Results: The columns will generally (once out of every 3 times or so) be out of order, and it'll add useless ones, like: Read, Unread, Account, Recipient, things I generally turn off. Screenshots will be attached. Expected Results: Just given me the columns as they were when I last left Thunderbird. I've noticed this since pre 1.0, but it's been "livable" until tonight. Is there any way I can just "reset" them all to the defaults? It's easier than having to re-arrange them every time.

Here's one mailbox's interpretation of the column tabs.

Another set of columns in a mailbox. These were all taken within the same minute of each other.

After 10 minutes of trying to resort columns in this particular mailbox...I decided let's take some screenshots here. Here's a baseline.

Seriously... I've not heard anything here--if there's anything I can do to either help confirm this, or whatever, please--just let me know.

So.. it's 3 weeks since I opened this... no replies... can I assume this is being ignored or just considered a non-issue? It's an extremely annoying issue for me. It continues to be so. As I've said all along, if theres anything I can do to help resolve this, I'm more than happy to do so, but that requires some kind of reply from your end. I realize this is open source, and we all have lives & jobs outside of this stuff--but three weeks without even a "Hey I'm busy right now, can we get to this in a few weeks?" :-(

Thunderbird 2.0.0.5; OS is XP. 1- Clicking on Column tabs of "Subject" and "Size" causes a randomly sorted list to be displayed. 2- Clicking on Column "Date" works fine and displays a sorted list by date.

Because sorting by date works; all incoming messages are of newer date and end up on top or on the bottom depending on sorting direction. On "Subject" and "Size" column sorting they appear together and in an unpredictable order.

The problems mentioned has a simple root cause; The original report was for an IMAP system; mine was because "Fetch headers only" under options are checked. 1) As a result all mail sizes (in sorting) are header size, even though the display shows the actual message size. As I downloaded each message, the place of it in the "sort by size" list was (became) correct. 2) The error in sorting by subject is because Re:<Subject> is correctly sorted by ignoring the "Re:"; however, the "Fw:<Subject>" for forward is sorted as "F".

I too am having a similar issue. One user is reporting that when she exits Thunderbird, her column selects have been reset, or re-ordered. This can be reproduced each time she exists Thunderbird. In an office of approximately 30 users, this is the only one I know affected.

Parkhideh, your problem, order WITHIN a column, is a different issue. If you still see this problem please look for a matching open bug. Joey, column order change on restart is also a different bug, which I believe is still open. closing this bug WFM.
