When updating the progress of a task in the task list, the remote calendar is
not updated. I have "automatically publish..." set, and it works for calendar
events.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a calendar with auto-publish
2. create a task.
3. update task progress
4. reload all remote calendars

Actual Results:
the task is reset to 0%

Expected Results:
the task should have the progress value I set.
I have experienced this as well. Changing the priority (or completion status)
does not immediately publish the changes to the remote server. Thus, when the
calendar is refreshed from the server, the local changes are overwritten.

If you manually "Publish entire calendar" to the server, then refresh, the
changes have been made as one would expect... so it is not a problem with
storing it on the server, just with sync'ing it as the action is performed.

The as-the-action-is-performed sync behavior seems to be the norm for all other
parts of the app, so this seems to be a legitimate bug.
I have the same problem. I am using linux mozilla calendar version 2005011113
for firefox. "Completing" a task does not synchronize the task list with the
remote calendar. I'd say this one is well confirmed.
I'm pretty sure this is a dup of some other bug. But anyway, try a trunk build.
It should be fixed there.
I can confirm this bug here as well:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a5) Gecko/20041112 Mozilla
Sunbird/0.2b

As mvl said in comment #3, we're interested in whether this occurs on trunk
builds. 0.2b is rather out-of-date now.
