When going to the specific web site http://www.meteorologica.co.uk & attempting
to save the site in bookmarks via Ctrl-D or using the Bookmark file menu, the
site is not saved & the Add Bookmark box will not close. Using Alt-F4 or closing
via the X, on firefox itself is the only way to get rid of the box, & of course
Firefox.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to the site http://www.meteorologica.co.uk
2. Try to save via Ctrl-D or via the Bookmark menu the site

Actual Results:
The site is not saved & the Add Bookmark box will not close. Using Alt-F4 or
closing via the X, on firefox itself is the only way to get rid of the box, & of
course Firefox.

Expected Results:
Saved the bookmark & the dialog box closed.

McAfee ver 4.5.1 SP2 engine 4.4.00 Dat 4.0.4480 running.
Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.501 Definition Ver:5711 running.
Neither report anything, XP-Pro OS has SP2 installed.
I could not reproduce this
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050426
Firefox/1.0+

I was not able to reproduce this, and was able to bookmark the page fine.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511
Firefox/1.0.4

I was able to reproduce this. The add bookmark dialog remained stuck. The
"about firefox" also got stuck when I opened it to check my version. Could not
escape except by closing Firefox with Task Manager.
This is 100% reproducible, regardless of URL. I have had this problem for several weeks. The Add Bookmark window does not close when OK is clicked, and the additions to the Bookmarks are lost upon restart. In addition, the fixes recommended in the Knowledge Base do not work.
I have the same problem but with any URL. In fact, all of my bookmarks were lost when I updated Fx (I believe this was 2 updates ago) and since then I have been unable to save new bookmarks. As a result, though I prefer Fx, I have had to resort to using Netscape instead. Please fix this.(

I've had exactly the same problem. I've resorted to saving my bookmarks in Internet Explorer and importing them every time I lose them - it seems to happen after updates. I also can't save new bookmarks using the methods you describe.
same occurs to landlord's computer. uninstall and then reinstall didnt help - upgraded him to 2.0 same problem - i did find i could manually bookmark sites for him in the drop down list of organize bookmarks but shouldnt be nec - my firefox (2.0 as well) works great. any ideas? id like to keep my apartment :P
I am also unable to use Ctrl-D or Add Bookmark to add *any* URL since upgrading to version 2. Bookmark will not add and dialog will not close. Bookmarks can only be added by using: Bookmarks | Organize Bookmarks | New Bookmark | paste URL.
Upgrading to 2.0.0.1 did not help.
This sucks. How do I got back to ver 1.5?
I have the same problem, and deleting and reinstalling did not solve the problem. Is anyone at Modzilla paying attention to this???
I'm on Windows XP Pro SP2, Mozilla Firefox version 2.0.0.3 with MacFox II 2.1.2 theme. I am having the same problem. Previously on Firefox 1.5, everything was smooth and fine, and I could save the bookmarks by both the methods, Ctrl+D and Ctrs+Shift+D, but since I upgraded to this version, I havent been able to add a single bookmark. No matter which site, it doesnt make any difference.
My parents' computer has the same problem. Firefox version 2.0.0.3, windows xp sp2. I have unistalled and reinstalled firefox and the problem persists. The one difference I noticed from the examples given above is that I can add a bookmark to any of the bookmark subfolders but not the main folder. When the page is bookmarked however the add bookmark box remains open and the bookmark has no name. By going into the bookmarks properties I can give it a name and can move it into the main bookmark folder but there should be an easier way to fix this problem.
I'm currently running the newest version of Firefox (2.0.0.3) on Windows XP after having reinstalled it. Uh, for the third time, that is. Exact same problem. Also am having a problem with my Toolbars; they all reverted to their original defaults and absolutely refuse to keep changes, but that's not the point. I have tried every way I know of to add bookmarks, on multiple sites, still nothing. Finally tried reinstalling; didn't work, so I completely deleted it and then tried again.

And then again. I have tried removing every single possible alteration I have ever made, restarting, reinstalling again. It won't stop. The only way I can add a bookmark is to manually open the properties and change the title and pretend I like my Toolbar this way. I don't remember when I updated, but I think it might have actually been right before this began; I forgot that I needed to close it down for it to take, and left it sitting around for ages.
WFM.

I can use both the bookmarks menu and control-d, and I can save it to the bookmarks toolbar or the bookmarks folder as I would expect.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/2007051502 Firefox/2.0.0.4
Those of you who are seeing this problem, are you using any add-ons? Does this happen if you start with safe mode? What about if you use a new profile? Can you identify what add-ons, if any, cause this to happen?

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode

If you update Firefox to latest version 2.0.0.4 or above, this problem will be fixed and you can then add bookmark by all possible method.
Reporter, per comment #15, can you confirm that you no longer see the reported behavior using 2.0.0.4 or later? If you are still able to reproduce it with 2.0.0.4 or later, do you have feedback to comment #14?

Yes Aaron, I confirm that after I updated Firefox to 2.0.0.4 I did not face the problem again. I can bookmark any page by any possible method. As for the add ons, I am using the same ones which I was using while I faced the problems, yet, no problemo.

I think it was a Firefox bug, independant of any addon or whatever. They've fixed it now.
