QuickTime Plug-in 7.0
File name: QuickTime Plugin.plugin
The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content
in web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site.
Before I upgraded to QuickTime 7 yesterday, WAVE file embeds (as on m-w.com's
dictionary) played fine. Now, nothing. As QuickTime 7 is automatically pushed to
all OS X users via the Software Update feature, this is going to be a major
regression. I suspect it would affect embeded video too (QT & MPEG), but I can't
find anything but embeded Real at the moment.wfm. Mac OS X 10.3.9 QT7 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050503 Firefox/1.0+

Can you provide a URL that works for you? http://m-w.com/cgi-bin/audio.pl?test0001.wav=test should say "test" upon load. And the "hear it again" link should produce sound. Neither work for me anymore. It doesn't look like nightlies were produced yesterday, so the latest is still 36-hours behind your build. I will try updating tomorrow and see if that changes anything.

OK, have done some more testing with today's build. Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050503 Firefox/1.0+ Video seems to play (with sound) without a hitch. MPEG and QT formats. But sound files on m-w's collegiate and free dictionaries still won't play. If you click the link "click here to listen with your default audio player", the sound file will load directly (eg, http://whatever/file.wav) and that plays, but the simple <embed> still does not work as it always used to. [Possibly off-topic, but maybe something for Mac users to test, perhaps to verify it's not just my QT installation that has corrupted -- another feature broken for me since the upgrade is "Preview", in File Info. Select an mp3 file, open File Info on it, and try to play the file in the preview section of File Info. It's very garbled for me there, since the QT7 update. If I open the mp3 in Quicktime directly, it plays fine.]

I experience this in Camino also. I first noticed it at a silly Doom tribute page I whipped up just before Doom 3 came out (http://www.derailer.org/idspispopd/ ; note how the embedded MIDI doesn't play). I think it may be that it affects any <embed>s and <object>s that are hidden or sized to zero width and height, as is the case on that page and for Merriam-Webster's pronunciation popups.

I just noticed that this is working for me now in the trunk Camino build from yesterday (Sep. 19, 2005). Can anyone confirm?

Confirmed, now working. Quicktime 7 broke it, and the recent Quicktime 7.0.2 update fixed it. I can't even begin to imagine how. Is WORKSFORME appropriate?

I'm pretty sure WORKSFORME is appropriate, since it wasn't a Mozilla/Gecko fix. -> VERIFIED
