There exists the ability to create a repair profile tool accessible from the
start menu. First you could create a new profile and import all the settings
from your old profile to the new. Much in the same way the Import Wizard works.
You can then reinstall all the extensions and themes using elements from the
Check For Updates tool.

The reason for this is that this often fixes a lot of trouble users who come to
the mozillazine forums experience. And is often the most common recommendation
given. Advanced options can be provided for control over what gets transfered
across in case the problem lies with an incompatible extension.

Related to bug 269814 or Core bug 63918?
Thanks, I did find bug 269814 before filing but it seems to be advocating a
WinXP System Restore like feature. However, I didn't know about bug 63918 and is
closer to what I was after. The only thing is that I'm not sure how it can be a
core bug, it seems to me its fix would be for Mozilla and this bug would be for
Firefox's implementation. I'll ask in that bug though.
The underlying question: Do Mozilla and Firefox use the same profile format? If
so, then this is a dupe. If not, to the extent that they will need separate
repair utilities, then bug 63918 is wrongly classified.
On second observations, the very existence of a Profile: BackEnd component under
Core must speak for itself.

Mozilla and Firefox do share many common elements hence the back end, but
there's enough differences to have profile catogories under both products. I was
thinking mainly about how extensions and themes are handled. However, with
recent development on Firefox you can now simply copy the extensions folder
across which simplifies things a lot. So I'm happy with this being duped.
