User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0.2 (20050317) I've subscribed to a dozen or so NGs. TBird can read headers and display posts ok, but every time I click on one of these subscribed groups in the left (folders) pane (under the account entry), it pops up a "Confirm" dialog with "Would you like to subscribe to ..." & the NG name. Of course I answer "Yes", even though I've already subscribed and have already responded "Yes" many, many, many times already. Click on a different group & it's "Would you like to subscribe to ...". Click back on the first and it's "Would you like to subscribe to ...". This feels like a Douglas Adams nightmare. NOTE: the usual solution (reformat your hard drive and reintall everything) is still a bad answer. FYI, Dell laptop, 2.4Ghz Snaileron,256MB,28G disk,Windows XP Pro-SP2, TBird 102, Firefox 103 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Subscribe to a newsgroup & say OK 2. NG appears under server in "Folders" pane 3. Click on NG 4. Get "Confirm" dialog 5. Click on different group 6. Go to step 4 Actual Results: Get "Confirm" dialog : "Would you like to subscribe to ...." Expected Results: Stop asking me if I want to subscribe to a group I've already subscribed to! I have created entries for 3 news servers (only 2 of which appear).... Only one is "widely" accessable (from the internet in general). The others are only accessable when I'm jacked directly into Comcast at home. This problem has been occuring on the non-comcast-specific server entry.

I realise this issue is over 16 years old, but it's still very much a problem, I just installed Thunderbird, subscribed to some news groups on a server I am on, and when I click on each message header I get asked the same thing, "Would you like to subscribe to 836?" (836 for example is the message number of the message in that message group).

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I can't believe no one has had this issue in the last 16 years except me!
What can I do to help give more information?

As an extra bit of info, if I click on "OK" to the question "Would you like to subscribe to 836?" a new dialog box comes up with; "The newsgroup 836 does not appear to exist on the host 1.2.3.4. Would you like to unsubscribe from it?"
