Per bug 287655, soon http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/welcome.html will
redirect to http://www.caminobrowser.org/start/ (the equivalent start page). In
anticipation of this, let's recreate the start page on cb.o to include important
information.

The new page should include a version sniffer and recommend the downloading of
the latest version if a user is using an old version.

Our new start page needs also needs to bring over all the information from the
old welcome page, including: the listing of the latest version (regardless of
what version is currently being used), a link to feedback (in this case,
sup_contact.html), link to release notes, and a link to the developer page.

In addition there should be a spot for potential news breaks. Things like major
security bugs, new releases, and other such information will go here.

This page will go live when bug 287655 is resolved.
I've been working off Jasper's design and have created a new welcome page. If a
couple people can go through it and make sure it looks good.

The notifications turn yellow when using an old release, old nightly, Mac IE,
and by default. This has been tested in 083, 084, latest nightly, Mac IE, and an
old nightly.

Any questions? Does this contain all the necessary information to replace the
one on mozilla.org?

Looks good to me, with a couple of comments:

1-On the 0.8.4 (current release) version, there is an extra hard-return that
makes for a short second line and makes the whole box a 3-line version.

2-On the MacIE version, the comma in the "Discover..." sentence is the wrong
punctuation to use (two complete clauses here, even if one is shorter). I'm not
sure which is absolutely correct, but either a semi-colon or colon--or even
"and"--is more appropriate grammatically.

3-In all browsers, if the window is "tall", there is an enormous gap between the
yellow/grey box and the rest of the page content. Better to let the bottom of
the page be blank IMO. Maybe more testing at different screen/window
widths/heights to be sure everything is where you expect it....

4-I guess swapping the "Feedback" link with the "Release Notes" link makes
sense, but I also think both "Feedback" and "Release Notes" link belong on the
0.8.4/current release version, just as they are now.

Screenshot of 0.8.4 coming to illustrate points 1 and 3.
Second revision.

Moved box to bottom of page. Smaller font when running a recent nightly or the
latest official release.

This should address Smokey's concerns. If there are no further issues, I'll push
this to the main one and have Mike change the links on m.o.
Smokey, how does this look to you? Once I get your "stamp of approval", I'm
going to resolve this bug and make the new start page live.
This needs to be done for 09 so bug 287655 can be resolved.

Targetting for 09.

Other than my grammar issue with the MacIE version (point 2 in comment 2),
thumbs up from me.

Smokey: I think I fixed the grammar issues. I'm using an mdash now, which seems
to make the most sense in my mind. I'm also using a colon before "Download
Camino 0.8.4". Does that look better to you?
MacIE versionlooks great now (hopefully the last time I ever have to open that
browser!)

But I missed one thing on the "other browsers" (Safari, etc.) version:

Camino 0.8.4, is available.

That comma shouldn't be there :-) Sorry I missed that before.

Thanks for finding that Smokey. I made that (hopefully) final change and made
the new start page live.

Resolving this bug as FIXED.

Samuel: that comma has now appeared in the the homepage box for other browsers,
too. :-(
Smokey, I'm not seeing the comma you mean. They all look right to me.

Well, perhaps I'm stuck behind a slow ISP proxy or something. I emptied cache,
restarted Safari, and the spurious comma was still there in the home page
box....
