Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
When Firefox crashes (randomly, usually when the program is closed, but not
always -- this is a separate but possibly related problem), the QFA is activated
and appears to start sending a crash report. However, it never seems to
complete sending the report and the report remains in the queue. When Firefox
is next launched, the QFA initiates another attempt to send the crash report
waiting in the queue, but again with similar results, i.e., unsuccessfully.
This is repeated until the incident is deleted from the queue. Sometimes there
is an advisory window that says the QFA was unable to connect with the server
and to check my proxy settings. I have a direct connection, not through a
proxy, so that is not applicable. Since the QFA is unable to report the crash
and its associated circumstances, it is impossible to determine what is causing
the random crashes and correct that problem. This bug report may also be
related to bug report #s 36545 and/or 265558, but I don't think it is an exact
duplicate of them. My hardware is a laptop with a 3.0 GHz P4 with 1 GB of RAM
using Windows XP Pro with SP2. I have had this problem on both the current
build of Firefox and the previous build (1.0.2) and possibly even the build
before that (I can't remember for sure).
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Wait for a random Firefox crash and then the QFA problem happens every time.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
See Details above.
Expected Results:
The crash report should have been sent seamlessly. I don't know if there would
have been any acknowledgment or response since the attempt to send the crash
report was never successful.
The Firefox crashes which initiate this QFA problem seem to occur randomly and
only occasionally, usually when the program is being closed down, although at
least once the crash occurred in the middle of a secure financial transaction on
an online banking web site.

Reporter, it could be caused by an proxy-server (Talkback still doesn't work
with proxy authentication), or by the talkback-server that is unreachable (which
happens quite often).

Please use the correct Prodict/component the next time
Assignee: nobody → jay
Component: General → Talkback Client

If you don't have a proxy and you also have no firewall and the Talkback server
is up, then it's a dupe of bug 210251
