my TB setup disallows to open WMV attachments directly, it says it is a BIN file
and only allows me to save the file to disk

Reproducible: Always
And with which mime-type is the .wmv marked in the message ?
(see the message source)
I cannot check, I accidentally deleted the message...

reopening! I had the same bug today. Mime type is:

ontent-Type: application/octet-stream;
	name="thai_massage_1.wmv"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment;
	filename="thai_massage_1.wmv"

it should be video/x-ms-wmv.
You can only save application/octet-stream files, that's by design
