I looked in the folder, and it's writing the same files over and over Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Installed 1.0.2 Opened a cmd window C:\program files\Mozilla thunderbird\ thunderbird-p Creadt profile named Aarecane and specify the file path to my existing profile on D:/Thunderbird/aarcane Delete Default Profile Start Thunderbird Actual Results: either by the okay box at the bottom of that window or by clicking the icon it does the same thing, loops endlessly, aparently reading and writing cache files of some sort from disk Expected Results: It should have loaded my profile within like 2 seconds or less, displaying my 3 inboxes, and optionally, displaying an additional folder named "Local folder" (or whatever it's called) Um.. the profile could have been created by a version as old as 0.9, However, that's only the last pre-1.0 version I remember installing, so it could be any later version also
TB can't be killed using windows task manager with full admin access
doesn't block development, this looks like a problem with your system if you can't kill it with the taskmanager.
Severity: blocker → critical
I'm the one with the problem.. There's some more info that should be here, I think. I installed Process Explorer (an advanced version of the task manager) and it showed me that Thunderbird is in fact Spawning a new Child process which is presumably doing the same tasks as the parent and then repeating. This _ONLY_ happens on my D drive, if the profiles are in C, it's flawless and perfect. D is formatted EXT2, and I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 2. I've tried completely reinstalling Windows to no avail. Just before my initial install I was successfully using the Profile from D without error, only after my initial reinstall did this problem arise. Subsequent Reinstalls did not remedy this (only possible as it was a fresh reinstall of windows to begin with)
I have the same problem with TB 1.0.6 on WinXp SP2. When I launch thunderbird -P, it opens a window where I choose one of the profiles. In the windows task manager, I can see that tb crashes about one second after I click on the button. If I run the "thunderbird -P Fab" where Fab is the name of the profile, tb opens and I can see my mails. Even if the profiles are on the same or on another drive (C: and D: all in NTFS), the ProfileManager Window leads to tb's crash.
1.0.6, XP sp2, same behavior. After selecting profile, TB *sometimes* (about 1 in 2 cases) fails to load. The process is running, eating 0 CPU time and not allocating any memory (both real and virtual). Only solution is to kill process and try again.
