293361 - Middle mouse button does nothing for Intellimouse on OS X 10.4

The default OS 10.4 mouse driver supports multi-button mice such as the MS
Intellimouse Explorer.

Middle clicking on a link in Safari opens a new tabbed window (after enabling
tabbed browsing from the Prefs).

Middle clicking on a link in Firefox does nothing at all.

It is not clear why one would work and the other wouldn't. Assuming the Mac uses
cocoa these days, I see that otherMouseDown is handled in the cocoa widget. So I
would have thought the behaviour for both would be the same:

A workaround I have used in the past is to install the Intellimouse driver. But
it doesn't yet work for 10.4 and the only reason I've ever needed it is for this
one particular issue.

It's possible that looking at WebCore and / or the QT port would show how this
event is being processed in Safari.

That explains it :) Camino's middle click actually works, but Firefox's doesn't.
So clearly Carbon / Cocoa are handling the button in different ways.

Intellimouse middle click opens the link in a new tab in Deer Park Alpha 2.

I am using Mac OS X 10.4.2 with no special mouse setup. Just plugged an
intellimouse into a normal setup.
