User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 Thunderbird downloads mail (some? all? can't be sure...) and then access to any other internet service is prevented, via telnet, Thunderbird, Firefox, IE, etc. Firefox tabs show the "loading" message; connection status shows no current traffic. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Thunderbird 2. Read mail 3. Watch all internet communications stop. Actual Results: No internet communications. Expected Results: Well, it shouldn't have shut down internet traffic.

Note: I forgot to mention that I am currently using McAfee, and it is relatively new (less than 2 months).

I believe the behavior in bugs no. 291431 and 263657 is very similar; that in bug no. 269391 is similar, but not close.

Additional information: The problem only appears when I click on a link within an email; this action hangs Thunderbird and Firefox. I use Thunderbird on only one machine; this is running XP (my laptop and second desktop run Windows 2000, which I've found to be generally less fussy than XP) I've Firefox set so links opened from Thunderbird open in a new tab, vs a new window.

I've had some configuration changes on the machine were this was occurring. I upgraded to FireFox 1.0.4 and the latest version of Thunderbird and I no longer use McAfee. With this configuration, the problem no longer occurs. I suspect that confirming this will be somewhat non-trivial, if for no other reason that I can't give you the exact configuration of my XP machine's configuration (o/s patch level, service packs, version of McAfee, settings for McAfee, etc). If I can, I'd like to recommend this stay open, but be put in abeyance until other users make similar reports.

I experience the same problem. My internet service is sbcglobal.net. Don't know if that is causing the problem. When all my email is downloaded, the program freezes. I can't look at any of the emails. If I leave it alone, sometimes it shows a shutdown and error report, then closes. If I close it manually, I can't reopent it either. Then I have to open task manager and find thunderbird (which is not an open window, but shows as a still ongoing process) and close it down. Either way, when I open it up a second time, I can read and process my emails normally. This is a bother.

E M Culver, please put the word "bug" in front of each of your bug references. closing invalid - based on EM's comments either not possible to confirm what changes caused it to go away, cause, nor steps to recreate, there are plenty of bugs regarding antivirus that cause such problems, at least for mail.
