Per discussion with justdave on IRC: <Colin> althoguh, my firefox says both are update.mozilla.org <justdave> Colin: what version of Firefox are you running? <Colin> 1.0.3, which started off as 1.0 <justdave> please file a bug on that <justdave> the update url should be addons.mozilla.org for extensions/themes and aus.mozilla.org for the app update This seems to be the case on the branch l10n lxr and some of the ones on trunk.

I think we're too late in the game to block 1.0.4 on this. The security fix in 1.0.4 is more important than fixing the load distribution on our servers.

Both update.properties and extensions.properties were updated to the correct hosts in 1.0.1; the trunk is correct as well. Is this actually an l10n bug? If so it should be filed against the localizations with the problem.

I believe there was a conscious decision not to fix the l10n update URL.
