bookmarks have disappeared again, this is the third time in 6 months, luckily I
export them every so often, but I have still lost 2 months worth of bookmarks

You probably need to check the FAQ sheet and other troubleshooting resources
for Firefox.
Please upgrade to Mozilla 1.7.8.
