Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4

I used the "check for updates" dialog to download the 1.0.4 package. Closed
firefox while installer started. Manually created new directory to install
into, selected that directory from within the installer, but the program was
actually installed into my existing 1.0.3 directory.

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
Firefox installed in wrong directory.

Expected Results:
Installed in right directory.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

This would appear to imply that bug reports are ignored until there are >1
comments attached. Is that the case?

This was easily repeatable when I submitted it. I have not had problems
recently because I haven't used the automatic updates, since they don't work in
the first place. Catch-22, I'd say.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051102 Firefox/1.5

There was a good reason for closing the large number of unconfirmed bugs - they were very unlikely to be looked at.

The autoupdate feature is now much altered, as it uses patches against your existing install rather than a complete download. I suspect that makes this bug invalid, as we don't do things the same way anymore.
The update system that downloaded / ran the installer has been changed as of 1.5 in a manner that this bug is no longer present.
