Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.0.2 (20050317) When uninstalling Thunderbird, there are several folders left on the hdd. These are (afak) the program folder with sub-folders and files and the Thunderbird folder in the user profile's applicationdata folder. Furthermore, the registry isn't cleaned up properly. I found several entries with *thunderbird* as search-string (In category "Software" (or however it is called) and in the "Mozilla Talkback" keys). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Installing Thunderbird 2. Uninstalling Thunderbird via Control Panel -> Software 3. Searching the HDD and the Registry. Expected Results: I'd really appreciate that Thunderbird uninstalls itself completly. I think, an option during the uninstall process would be fine to let the user choose how to uninstall it (completely or with settings left for future installations).
(In reply to comment #0) > are (afak) the program folder with sub-folders and files All files or only from afterwards installed extensions, themes, dictionaries? > and the Thunderbird > folder in the user profile's applicationdata folder. That is intentionally to save the user's profile (e.g. update). > Furthermore, the registry > isn't cleaned up properly. I found several entries with *thunderbird* as > search-string (In category "Software" (or however it is called) and in the > "Mozilla Talkback" keys). Talkback settings is another known bug, see Bug 254708.
Severity: normal → minor
Summary: uninstalling TB leaves folders/files onthe hdd and entries in the registry → uninstalling TB leaves folders/files on the hdd and entries in the registry
Version: unspecified → 1.0
> That is intentionally to save the user's profile (e.g. update).
Yes, I thought as much. But I'd really appreciate to see a confirmation during
the uninstalling process. Actually, I had a currupt UI (I played around a
little). Due to the saved profile I wasn't able to get rid of it (when
uninstalling TB and installing it again). I had to remove the profile folder by
myself.
In my opinion, applications have to ensure and guarantee that they uninstall
properly if the user whishes to.
