User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 I'm assuming that the update mechanism in FF thinks that there is something to be done, but apparently not. Unfortunately there isn't any indicator of what FF thinks needs to be updated, so it's hard to further diagnose this. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click on the blue update icon. Actual Results: See above

Did the icon go away after you got the "Firefox was not able to find any available updates" message? If yes, then this is a dupe of bug 268560

What extensions do you have installed?
At the time I only had adblock IE View and ForecastFox installed. Now (behavior continues) I have more.

Closing out bugs in the old style updater, which are superseded by the new system in 1.5.
