The search sidebar, present in every SeaMonkey build I can remember, is
non-existent in Firefox. Has this component been completely ditched in favour of
the quick-search in the upper right hand corner?

In fact, it appears as if the sidebar has been effectively neutered to the
extent that 3rd-party sidebars can no longer be installed. In the event that I'm
not being really dense, this begs the question: why has this functionality been
lost?
