when I try to launch Firefox and also if I try to click on any of my links.

Reproducible: Always
This is most likely a Firewall issue. Please try configuring your firewall to
allow Firefox access to the internet.
Could not reproduce using 1.0.4 on Windows XP or Windows ME.
