Lotus Notes has a "document properties" feature which enables a user to get the
sender, routing information, and other information, including the body as raw
text, without opening the message. I believe this (or something similar) would
be a useful feature to add to Thunderbird.

Reproducible: Always
Why would you want to do that without opeing the message? Sounds like something
for an extension if you really want it, IMO.
To Magnus:

Mostly because of various HTML trickery within emails.

This does not sound like a terribly difficult change; I would think the email
header is downloaded with the email proper. I'm not concerned about an
automatically returned email receipt; I've got Thunderbird set up so it never
sends them.

Maybe I'll try writing the extension. I need the practice in a languages other
than perl, Fortran, or javascript.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a

you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
