That is odd. I can reproduce on both mozilla and firefox trunk with clean profiles. My distribution is Debian sarge.

More testing Knoppix: only when scrolling (I will attach testcase for that) Windows: as reported no Windows build under wine: yes This seems to be very system dependant.

This should be self-explanatory; you get a black colour where you should have GIF transparency. Gerv

Though note that if you need a different image you're probably seeing a different bug.
Works for me on trunk. xorg-x11-6.8.2-100.2, gtk2-2.8.3-4, NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7676
