User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3

The server which provided BeOS semi-official (not marked as contrib-builds)
nightlies until mid-to-late 2003 has gone offline, with nobody willing to tell
me where it was, who ran it, or how to get a new one online
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225401)

There is a Pentium III-550 machine available as a BeOS build server or
tinderbox, which can probably be hosted offsite if this is required. Previous
attempts to find out how to get a server set up with permissions to upload even
contrib nightlies have been left with barracking from extremely unhelpful
Mozilla Foundation employees.

Assistance in either fixing the former build server, which I was always led to
believe was in fact an upload from the BeOS tinderbox, Bewildered, which must
have coincidentally died at exactly the same time if Mozilla staff are to be
believed, or in getting the new server either to Mozilla to be a tinderbox or
build box, or externally as a build server would be appreciated.

Reproducible: Always
I'm not sure who's in charge of giving out FTP access (and this is clearly the
wrong component for it), but your attitude in bug 225401 sure doesn't make me
want to give you access to any of our servers.
I have no idea what component IS suitable, and it does say to guess in that case

Given -your- attitude in that bug, I'm starting to regret ever having donated
money to the Mozilla Foundation....
BTW, in case it isn't clear, I would really prefer to deal with someone else
than David Baron over this. Although I think thats obvious by now...
Reassigning to a potentially appropriate component, but I don't think the
submitter is someone we should trust with FTP access.

Summary: BeOS Nightly Builds Have Not Been Updated For >2 Years → need FTP staging account (mozcontrib group) for uploading BeOS nightlies
(And, FWIW, I'm not sure why you're complaining about "dealing with" me. It's
not my job to do any of this stuff -- I work on the layout engine. So I was
just trying to be helpful by answering some of your questions. I'll try not to
be helpful in the future.)

The "who ran it" question is answered in bug 225401 comment 1.
It doesn't have to be who is provided with access, there are a number of other
people willing to run the build machine. I can also provide references from a
few other opensource projects, and BeUnited (Sun's Java porting agent for BeOS),
if required.

My ability to have personality clashes shouldn't and indeed doesn't affect my
ability to let some hardware run a shellscript.
No, read it in context. Disreali stated that he had been providing builds in the
abscence of what he described as 'official builds by mozilla.org'. He was not
providing the nightlies that had become broken.

There have never been any official builds by mozilla.org on BeOS to my
knowledge. Any time we've ever had BeOS builds they've been contributed. CCing
timeless who I think was involved with it at the time, maybe he'll know more.

I note that timeless is travelling until Monday, so it may be a couple days
before we have an answer.
David, i'm very sorry,
but from previous communication experience with you I'd also prefer to avoid
such "help and participation":(((
Sergei - help and participation from me, or from David? Not quite clear on that

Just for reference, I'm (probably) not going to be the one hosting the build
server, although I will be remotely configuring and possibly administering it.
MYOB, i thought it is clear that you wasn't target of my previous notice.

I'm glad that someone brave is trying to pick that task up, i'm feel myself bit
old to fight against arrogance and knocking on wall with my head.
Sergei, it was fairly clear, just wanted to clarify exactly who was meant
there... tired, up too late setting up my own box here to build so I can tell
Czeslaw how to configure his.

As a donater to the Mozilla Foundation, and a translator to an actually official
translation (ga_IE, for which I got my freebie t-shirt and all), I have never
experienced this level of difficulties with anyone else within the foundation
Sorry if I caused problems, but I was annoyed that you demanded that *I* answer
all your questions even though I'm not the one responsible for doing what you
wanted, just because I tried to be helpful by answering one of your questions.
Like I said, I'll try to avoid being helpful in the future.
David - theres a simple answer you could have given - "I Don't Know". Would have
accepted that.

You gave it for my question as to who provided nightlies, but never for that
about getting a build server running.

The person contributing the builds is responsible for getting the build server
running. If you have a server that you can use, then let us know and we can work
with you to get them posted to the right place.

Closing this out. If someone comes forward with a build machine who wants to
provide BeOS nightlies, please get in touch and we can talk about hosting.
