User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050514 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050514 Any time I perform some action which results in a user prompt such as "Close multiple tabs?" or "Save password information for this web page?", between the action that generates the prompt and the prompt itself being displayed, Mozilla 1.7.8 (slackware-10.1 patches) causes ram usage to jump alarmingly and swap memory to get utilized heavily. In "top" you see three mozilla-bin processes and they have 118% memory usage each (this machine has 256mb ram and 1.4gb swap). I have included links to a strace file of me browsing to yahoo email with a tab open to google.com and then clicking close window decoration in order to cause such a prompt, as well as the output of "free" before and after", and a list of all packages installed on my machine. I promise that I looked for this exact bug. I did not find it. I apologize if this ends up being a repeat. http://www.puresimplicity.net/~neosadist/strace.txt (short strace of me using mozilla and causing the prompt, then closing the borwser) System info (written for tuxmobile.org): http://www.puresimplicity.net/~neosadist/linux/toshiba/toshiba.html Output of "free" after it comsumes tons of ram and swap: http://www.puresimplicity.net/~neosadist/free1.txt Output of "free" after closing all mozilla processes: http://www.puresimplicity.net/~neosadist/free2.txt List of all packages installed on my system: http://www.puresimplicity.net/~neosadist/packages.txt Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Cause a condition that requires a prompt, such as logging into a website ("Do you want to save password information for this site?") or try to close mozilla with multiple tabs ("Do you want to close?") 2. Memory usage soars, swap usage soars, cpu fan powers up, cpu utilization is erratically up and down, entire system lags, until finally... 3. Prompt is displayed. 4. Close all mozilla windows and watch ram and swap usage plummet. Actual Results: Program consumes approximately 124mb extra ram per process, causes system to lag. Expected Results: Should have not consumed approximately 124mb extra ram per process. This happens with the browser. Why this component is not listed in the bug components section I have no clue.
Sorry about this, I discovered it was my own personal blunder. Tried installing flash player when Slackware 10.1 already comes with it, so that in the user's home plus the global ones probably conflicted with each other. Bug closed.
