The URL listed (or any Cringely article) initially loads normally. The first few
paragraphs of the text are black on white. But as soon as I scroll, any area
which gets redrawn is covered with finely spaced horizontal lines, making the
article impossible to read (will attach screenshot).

Covering the text part of the page with another window, then moving the window,
causes it to redraw correctly (but as soon as I scroll, the lines come back).
Covering the whole window with another window, or switching to another virtual
desktop and back, redraws with the lines.

I see this in CVS firefox (updated about a week ago) and in the mozilla suite
1.8b, but not in firefox 1.0.4 or 1.0.2. I suspected a possible X server problem
(if that matters, it's version 4.3.0.dfsg.1-1 from debian sid on an ATI Rage
128) but 1.0.4 doesn't show the problem on the same machine. (konqueror also
displays the page correctly; that's the only non-mozilla css-aware browser I
have on this machine.) Choice of font doesn't matter -- I have different fonts
in the suite and firefox -- and increasing font size doesn't affect the lines.
Worksforme in current Windows trunk build.

Still happens here, with a fairly current CVS build. Maybe it's Linux-specific.
Here's a screenshot.
This is really the same as bug 256328, which was not completely fixed.
